Spring 2020 in 3 words: adaptation, resilience, zoom (fatigue)
Courses: Honors DNA and Evolution, Europe Today, JSIS 202
Spring 2020 overview: while being online wasn't very much fun, and I had to work more proactively to learn in my classes, overall, I was able to make the most of this quarter. I decided to take advantage of the additional time I had to exercise often, try out new recipes, and do art. I also was able to maintain connections with my friends through regular Zoom and FaceTime calls. While some of my extracurriculars weren't happening in the same capacity as before, I continued to write a few articles for The Daily and take part in the Unite UW Professional Development Project.
Artifacts
Europe Today Midterm
I thought that Europe Today was a super interesting class, as it encouraged me to stay knowledgeable about current events. I thought that this particular assignment, a series of short essays on the current state of the EU, was important to include in my portfolio because it contained many fundamental concepts, and I've used it as a refresher for other classes where these concepts are relevant.
JSIS 202 Critical News Review
I really enjoyed my JSIS 202 class, which focused on the media and the media's role and responsibility in government accountability and human rights. I wrote this piece on speculation regarding Kim Jong-un's health status, and enjoyed this assignment for the amount of personal analysis I was able to include.
Mental Health Workshop Presentation
We were able to host two online events for the Unite UW Professional Development Project. I thought that this particular event was very timely, and I heard from participants that it did a successful job opening conversation on mental health and allowing participants to feel validated and not alone in what they were experiencing.
