Spring 2021 in 3 words: draining, hopeful, weary

Quarter in review: Spring 2021 was a period of complete and utter burnout for me. The pandemic, which has lasted well over a year at this point, has very much drained me of my mental energy. I also struggled a lot this quarter with frequent migraine headaches, which made academics much more difficult. Still, I did the absolute best I could given the circumstances, and I'm proud of myself for that. Some highlights of this quarter include a few short trips to Orcas Island and Kalaoch; and getting vaccinated! I also went paddle boarding with friends frequently, and cut back on certain RSOs in order to better prioritize my health. And while it was harder for me than in previous quarters to keep up with academics, I enjoyed my classes, especially my Writing about the Sea course.

Courses: C Lit 240: Writing about the Sea, International Humanitarian Law, Honors Interdisciplinary Arctic Studies

C Lit 240 short paper

This literature class was the first and most likely the only English class I've taken in college. I've always really enjoyed English as a subject but have struggled with how it's taught in the classroom. I really enjoyed the theme of this course, which was writing about the sea, but again, I did have to somewhat significantly adjust my writing style to meet my professor's standards.

Arctic Studies Russia Presentation

In my Honors class, we did a group presentation on Russia's current energy use, climate change legislation, and the role of art and Indigenous activism in the climate crisis in Russia. Our group did a fantastic job dividing the work and communicating well, and I enjoyed my role as an editor, helping polish our paper and make the writing consistent.

IHL paper

For my International Humanitarian Law class, we divided into groups for our final paper and presentation. It was neat to be able to learn from the law students who were taking the course, and it ultimately felt very practically. In retrospect, this also ties into my Task Force, which emphasizes the role of technology and human rights, as well.
