Autumn 2021 in 3 words: reinvigorating, equilibrium, coordination

Autumn 2021 was a much-anticipated return to in-person classes. I cannot explain how happy I was to finally be in a classroom, albeit with masks and social distancing. This quarter, I was also an RA for Mercer Court. I really enjoyed the role, because I'd wanted to be an RA my junior year after having had very positive interactions with my dorm RAs during my freshman and sophomore years. I didn't get much time on campus my junior year, so it was very fun to return and get to welcome residents. I also enjoyed the event planning component of the role a lot. This quarter, I also focused on planning my JSIS Honors thesis, and conducted a lot of secondary source research. I continued to co-host Wellness Weekly, and found a good balance between academics, social life, and self-care.

Wikipedia Article

For our French final, we were asked to edit or create a Wikipedia article on a topic pertaining to the course. I chose to edit the Jesuit Relations page, because I'd initially looked at it when we were reading excerpts from the text, but I didn't find the article very comprehensive. To improve this Wiki page, I cut a fair amount of repetition, changed the organization to improve the flow, and added information on the content of the relations and Indigenous presence and reaction to the texts. I thought that this project was challenging in that it was hard to know when to stop writing, as I could have theoretically spent an endless amount of time improving the article.

Claims and Evidence Ethnography Data Collection Instructions

For our Claims and Evidence class, we studied how the pandemic impacted peoples' health behaviors. We collected qualitative, quantitative, and ethnographic data to answer this question. I was in the ethnography group, so we created a plan for the class to conduct in-person and online observations of health behaviors. Overall, it was very intriguing for me to not just read a research paper, but to take part in the planning, data collection, analysis, and write-up.

Senior Thesis Original Research Question

I stayed consistent with the topic of my senior thesis, but the scope of the project and the question itself did change a fair amount. The peer reviews during the thesis seminar were beyond helpful for me to make sure my project was manageable in the time frame given to us, and helped me develop a very specific research focus.
